Apocalyptica unveils single from new album “Plays Metallica Vol. 2” and announces European tour

Apocalyptica, the world-famous Finnish symphometal cello band that has toured Latvia several times, is releasing the single and music video of its tenth studio album “Plays Metallica Vol. 2” and announcing a European tour on Friday, 23 February 2024. Latvian audiences will be able to enjoy the new album live in the autumn – on 21 October 2024 at Arena Riga.

The band’s tenth studio album “Plays Metallica Vol. 2 Tour 2024”, which will be released later this year, will be the follow-up to their legendary 1996 debut album “Apocalyptica Plays Metallica by four cellos”, which turned the musicians into global stars in a matter of weeks. With this new album, the band will return to their roots and continue their symphonic tribute to heavy music legend Metallica. With the release of the new album, Apocalyptica embarks on a European tour, opening in their native Finland in June 2024.

“It’s so incredible to know that after so many years, our tribute to Metallica still resonates so strongly with listeners. To be able to share our love of Metallica’s music directly with an audience at a live concert is something magical and unique. This time our show will reach a new unprecedented experience, so we can’t wait to meet our fans and share our joy,” says band leader Eika Topkinen. Erika Topinen

“Apocalyptica, which combines heavy music with classical instrumentation, was founded in 1993 in Helsinki by students from the Sibelius Academy of Music, who initially became known for their covers of popular tunes by Metallica and other heavy metal bands. The band consists of three graduates of the Academy’s cello class – Eika Topinen, Pertu Kivilakso, and drummer Miko Siren, who also participated in the recording of the new album, but will no longer perform with the other members on the same stage.

Apocalyptica has released a total of nine studio albums to date, with a combined sales of more than four million. The band has performed with its youthful idols Metallica and has played around 1000 solo and festival shows. The band has also performed at Metallica’s 30th anniversary concert, performing three songs together.

The popular Finnish cello group has been a regular visitor to Latvia since 2000, where it has built up an audience.
